Patagonia 2014

In early January, Kevin Daniels and Josh Huckaby hunkered down, sharpened their tools, put on another layer of clothes and waded through a meter of fresh snow to the base of the Fowler route. The 450 meter route, which Charlie Fowler established in 1999, follows ice, rock, and snow up the East face of Patagonia's Guillaumet.

"Patagonia is showing me her real attitude. I love it. My image of this place was fierce winds and horrendous weather that will filet the skin of a mans face and freeze his hair. Well i got it,"

James Lucas Charlie Barrett

After stepping off the bus in Yosemite National Park in the summer of 2001, James Lucas spent a week trying to find El Capitan. For the past 12 years, Lucas has called the granite cliffs home, finding and making fast ascents on El Capitan, freeing a new route on Washington's Column, and exploring the hundreds of boulder on the Valley floor. Beyond climbing on the impecable granite, the ubiquitous Lucas can be found at the local crag.

As an all around climber I’ve done everything from long approach backcountry peaks to roadside bouldering. I love every aspect of climbing, whether it'd be bouldering, cracks or sport. My climbing highlights include first ascents and redpoints of 5.14 sport routes, 5.13+ gear climbs and V13 boulder problems. For the passed 7 years I’ve been lucky enough to climb outside on average of 4-5 days a week. Climbing is definitely my true passion and means a lot more to me than just sending the hardest routes, to me it's about having fun, friends and enjoying life.
